Escape Games NYC (New York City) |
The Outer Space room at Escape Games NYC was a blast! From start to finish, it was an enjoyable experience that has surpassed the dozen or so escape rooms I've done. The plot has you, the crew of the spaceship, stuck in a situation where the ship has started to malfunction and you must regain control of the situation or else you'll be stuck in outer space forever. Though it doesn't state it on the website's description of the room, there are references to the movie Alien throughout the entire room that made it more fun if you've seen the movie, but not essential to know if you haven't.
Puzzles, Technology & Set Design
The puzzles in this room were very immersive and exciting. The use of technology and the room design where stellar. We had 6 people in our group and we were blazing through puzzles and just by chance in several of the situations. If I could do it again I'd try to stick together and go puzzle by puzzle with the group so I could see some of the puzzles I missed when some of us were working on our own ones. Our group spent a majority of the time on one particular puzzle that we knew how to do, we just weren't able to complete it which was frustrating, so after about 15 minutes of not being able to get past it we finally asked for assistance. Other than that, the puzzles were extremely enjoyable and unique enough to where everyone who had been to at least one other escape room agreed this was much better than ones we'd done before. I can't recommend this room enough!Memorable Moments
The flow of the room was fantastic! There was one particular clue I noticed that no one else had which was very immersive and made me feel like I was actually caught in the situation at hand.Room For Improvement
One of the puzzles was extremely finicky and frustrating, so don't be afraid to ask for assistance if you have trouble completing a task that you understand instead of wasting 15 minutes like we did.Overall Thoughts
The theme, use of technology, and cohesiveness of the puzzles made this room incredibly fun and exciting. This has been the best room I've played so far and I imagine it will be until I make it to some of the rooms I've been told about in LA.- Set design: Excellent!
- Technology/automation: Gen-2 (high tech)
- Difficulty: Average
- Price: $35/person
- Number of players: 2-6, private room (we recommend 4-5)
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Overall Rating: ★★★★½
